Banana Split

6 ingredients Cuisine: American Page updated October 2026

This banana split is built around one whole banana, halved lengthwise so it holds three big scoops of ice cream between its two sides. The flavors are yours to choose, since both the ice cream and the topping are left open. Whipped cream, sprinkles and a maraschino cherry finish it in the classic sundae-shop order. It needs no cooking and takes only a few minutes to assemble.

Instructions

Peel the banana and cut it in half lengthwise. Lay both halves in a serving bowl with the cut sides facing up.

Put three full scoops of ice cream between the two banana halves, so the fruit cradles the scoops on either side.

Cover the whole thing with a generous layer of whipped cream, then spoon a generous amount of your chosen ice cream topping over the cream.

Scatter sprinkles over the top and finish with a single maraschino cherry set in the center. Serve straight away, before the ice cream starts to melt.
