Beef Burgers with Onion
Beef burgers with onion cooked into the patty rather than piled on top. Frying the chopped onion first softens it and takes the raw edge off, so it melts into the meat instead of crunching. The egg holds the patties together on the grill, and a slice of cheese goes on for the final minute. It is a simple backyard burger that stays moist and tastes of onion all the way through.
Instructions
Pour a thin layer of vegetable oil into a frying pan and heat it. Add the chopped onion and fry for about 5 minutes, until it is soft. Take the pan off the heat and let the onion cool.
Mix the ground beef with the egg and the cooled onion until evenly combined.
Shape the mixture into patties. Cook them on a grill for about 6 minutes in total, turning once halfway, until both sides are browned and the meat is cooked through.
In the last minute of cooking, lay a slice of cheese on each patty. Cover the grill and leave it until the cheese has softened and begun to melt.
Toast the buns lightly. Put each patty in a bun and add lettuce, thin tomato slices and ketchup to taste.
