Campfire S'mores

A campfire s'more is a toasted marshmallow and milk chocolate pressed between two graham crackers. The stick matters here: green wood with the bark peeled off holds the marshmallow without scorching or flavoring it. Turning it slowly over the flames gives a golden, lightly crisp shell around a molten center, which melts the chocolate on contact. It is quick to assemble, and children can do most of it.

Instructions

Peel the bark from the end of a long green stick so the marshmallow does not pick up a bitter woody taste. Push the marshmallow onto the peeled end.

Hold the marshmallow over the campfire, turning it slowly, until the outside is golden brown and the inside has gone soft.

Lay the four squares of milk chocolate on one graham cracker. Slide the hot marshmallow off the stick and onto the chocolate.

Press the second graham cracker on top and squeeze gently so the marshmallow spreads and starts to soften the chocolate. Eat it right away while it is warm.
