Cola de Mono (Monkey's Tail)
Cola de Mono is a Chilean drink of milk, coffee and brandy, traditionally served around Christmas and New Year. Here it is spiced with a whole nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon sticks boiled in water first, which gives the milk a warm, fragrant base. The recipe makes enough for 12 people and is bottled and chilled, so you can prepare it ahead of a gathering and simply pour.
Instructions
Put the nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon sticks in a small pot with the half cup of water. Bring it to a boil and keep it boiling for 10 minutes so the water takes on the flavor of the spices.
You can lift the spices out of the water if you like, though the source recommends leaving them in.
Pour the spiced water into a larger pot that holds at least 3 liters.
Add the coffee, a little more water and the sugar, and stir until the sugar has completely dissolved.
Pour in the milk and the Chilean brandy and stir to combine.
Transfer the Cola de Mono to bottles and keep it in the refrigerator.
Make it personal.
