A deep fried Mars bar is a battered candy bar fried until the coating is crisp and the chocolate and caramel inside turn soft and molten. The method is the same one used for fish and chips, so the batter is just milk, flour and egg. Chilling the bar first helps it hold its shape in the oil. For a traditional result, fry it in beef drippings instead of vegetable oil.

Instructions

Chill the candy bar in the fridge or freezer for a short while. It should be cold and firm but not frozen solid.

Whisk the milk, flour and egg together in a bowl until you have a smooth, creamy batter.

Heat the oil in a pot or fryer to around 350 to 375°F (175 to 190°C).

Coat the chilled bar completely in the batter, so no chocolate shows through.

Lower the bar gently into the hot oil, since a rough drop can knock the batter off. Fry until the batter turns golden brown.

Serve the bar once it is fried.
