Dog Biscuits
These homemade dog biscuits use peanut butter for protein and a mix of bran cereal and rolled oats for a rough, crunchy texture that suits a chewing dog. The dough is stiff enough to roll and cut into bone shapes, and the biscuits firm up further if left out overnight after baking. You can swap in a low-fat, mostly-oat granola for the oats, or a bran cereal with flax seeds for more texture.
Instructions
Heat the oven to 350 °F (177 °C). Lightly grease a cookie sheet and set it aside.
In a large bowl, stir the peanut butter, stock and oil into the beaten egg until the mixture is smooth.
In a second bowl, combine the flour, bran cereal and rolled oats.
Add the dry mixture to the egg mixture and stir until a very stiff dough forms. Finish by working it with your hands, and if the dough is not stiff, add a little more flour at a time until it is.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and roll it to about 0.25 inches (6.4 mm) thick. Cut out shapes with a cutter, bone shapes being a good choice.
Place the biscuits on the greased cookie sheet and bake on the middle oven rack for about 15 minutes.
Let the biscuits sit out overnight so they harden fully before you hand them over.
