Garlic Croutons II
Garlic croutons made in a skillet take about 20 minutes and need only four ingredients. Garlic powder, rather than fresh garlic, coats the bread evenly and does not scorch in the pan the way minced cloves can. Starting with a loaf of good French or Italian bread gives you cubes that crisp outside and keep some chew within. Scatter them over soup or a green salad.
Instructions
Set an 8-inch skillet over low heat while you get the bread ready, so the pan is warm before anything goes in.
About a minute before you plan to start cooking, turn the heat up to medium.
Toss the bread cubes in a bowl with the olive oil, salt and garlic powder until every cube is lightly coated.
Tip the bread into the skillet and cook for about 7 minutes, stirring often. The croutons are done when they are crisp and golden brown all over.
Use them as a garnish for soups and salads.
Make it personal.
