Grilled Peanut Butter Sandwiches
A grilled peanut butter sandwich is a fried sandwich with a warm, molten center, made from three pantry staples in about ten minutes. The buttered bread turns crisp and golden while the peanut butter softens into a spread that runs when you bite in. Elvis Presley was known for eating these alongside sliced bananas and well-done bacon. Here, grilling means frying in a skillet, as with a grilled cheese.
Instructions
Spread the peanut butter on one slice of bread and press the second slice on top to make a sandwich.
Spread the outsides of the sandwich with softened or melted butter or margarine, covering both sides.
Set the sandwich in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Turn it a few times as it cooks.
The sandwich is done when the bread is golden brown on both sides and the peanut butter inside has melted. Serve with plenty of milk.
