Orange Hot Chocolate
Orange hot chocolate is made in one pan in about five minutes, with real chopped bittersweet chocolate instead of cocoa powder. The milk is steeped with a cinnamon stick, then finished with orange and vanilla extracts and whisked to a froth. The result is dark and not very sweet, which lets the orange come through. If you prefer a sweeter cup, stir in a tablespoon of sugar with the chocolate.
Instructions
Pour the milk into a saucepan and add the cinnamon stick. Warm it gently until it is just below a simmer, about 180 °F (82 °C).
Add the chopped chocolate and stir as it melts into the milk. Keep the heat low and do not let the milk come to a boil.
Once the chocolate has melted completely, strain the milk into another container to remove the cinnamon and any unmelted bits. Stir in the orange and vanilla extracts.
Whisk or blend the mixture until it is frothy. Pour it into mugs or heatproof glasses and serve right away.
Make it personal.
