South Side Fizz

The South Side Fizz is a gin sour with mint and lime, lengthened with club soda into a tall, cold drink. It is the same as a traditional South Side, but the soda makes it lighter and easier to sip slowly. Muddling the mint with lime and syrup first puts the herb at the center of the drink, and stirring over crushed ice until the glass frosts keeps every sip properly cold.

Instructions

Put one sprig of mint in a cocktail shaker with the lime juice and simple syrup. Muddle gently so the mint releases its oils without being shredded.

Add the gin and fill the shaker with ice. Shake well, then strain the drink into a highball glass filled with crushed ice.

Stir the drink until frost forms on the outside of the glass, which tells you it is properly chilled.

Top the glass with club soda and garnish with the other sprig of mint.
