Spiced Flour

Spiced flour is a two-minute seasoned coating made from pantry staples. Paprika gives the flour color, garlic powder adds savory depth, and a small amount of cayenne brings background heat that you can reduce or leave out. Because the spices are mixed into the flour itself, whatever you dredge picks up flavor in the same step as the crust. It makes about six servings and needs nothing more than a bowl and a spoon.

Instructions

Measure the flour into a medium bowl, then add the paprika, garlic powder, pepper and cayenne.

Stir or whisk the mixture for a minute or so, scraping the sides of the bowl, until the spices are spread evenly and the flour has a uniform pale orange color with no streaks.

Use the mix right away as a seasoned coating, or keep it in a covered container until needed.
