Spicy Tomato Soup

This spicy tomato soup needs only seven ingredients and a blender. Canned diced tomatoes work well here, so it suits any time of year. Equal parts tomato and heavy cream make a rich, smooth base, and a small pinch of cayenne adds gentle heat without hiding the tomato. White pepper keeps the color clean. Simmering reduces the soup until it turns thick and velvety, and cooked shrimp or andouille sausage make easy toppings.
Instructions
Put the tomatoes, cream, sugar, white pepper, salt, granulated garlic and cayenne into a blender or food processor. Blend until completely smooth, working in batches if everything will not fit at once.
Pour the puree into a saucepan and set it over high heat. Bring it to a boil.
Turn the heat down so the soup simmers gently. Cook for 20 to 30 minutes, stirring from time to time, until it has thickened noticeably.
Ladle the soup into bowls and serve it hot. If you like, top each bowl with cooked shrimp or slices of andouille sausage.
Make it personal.
