Tisane ma Louisa (Algerian Lemon Herb Tea)
Tisane ma Louisa is an Algerian herbal tea made from dried verbena and fresh lemon juice. The name means Louisa's water remedy, and the drink is traditionally taken as a soothing home remedy. Crushing the steeped leaves in the pot before straining pulls out extra flavor from just 2 g of herb. The lemon adds a sharp edge, and sugar stays optional. It takes only 15 minutes from start to cup.
Instructions
Pour the water into a saucepan and bring it to a boil over high heat.
Drop the dried verbena leaves into the boiling water.
Leave the leaves to steep in the water for about 10 minutes, so the liquid takes on color and a strong herbal scent.
Stir the pot, pressing the leaves against the side to crush them as small as you can, then strain out all the leaves.
Stir in the lemon juice, then add sugar a little at a time if you want it sweeter. Taste and serve.
Make it personal.
