Wassel
Wassel is a hot spiced fruit punch built for crowds, and this version makes enough to serve about 75 people. Four juices form the base: apple for body, cranberry for tartness, white grape for sweetness and orange for brightness. Mulling spices and floating orange slices do the rest as the pot warms. Nothing is fermented and nothing needs to be strained, so it suits large winter gatherings where a big pot stays on the stove.
Instructions
Pour the apple, cranberry, white grape and orange juices into a very large pot, or divide them between two pots if one will not hold the full batch.
Stir in the mulling spices and the orange slices so the spices are spread through the liquid.
Set the pot over gentle heat and warm the wassel until it is steaming. Do not let it boil, since a boil would dull the fruit and spice flavors.
Serve it hot, ladled into mugs, with a few orange slices in each cup.
Make it personal.
