Bagel Toast
Bagel toast is a modern Israeli snack that turns a sesame bagel into a hot, pressed sandwich with a crisp shell. The filling layers salty Brindsah or feta, melting hard cheese, sweet corn, green olives, tomato and raw onion, all tied together with ketchup and Thousand Island dressing. A short spell on the grill browns the outside while the cheese melts through, so it never turns mushy. It is ready in about two minutes.
Instructions
Cut the bagel in half. Spread Brindsah cheese, or feta, over the cut side of one half.
Lay several slices of hard cheese over the spread cheese. Scatter corn and sliced green olives on top, then add several slices of tomato and onion.
Pour ketchup and Thousand Island dressing over the filling. Close the sandwich with the other bagel half.
Pour a little more Thousand Island dressing over the top of the bagel and set it on the grill. Turn the grill on.
Take the bagel off when all the cheese has melted and the outside is medium-dark brown and crisp, about 2 minutes.
Eat it right away, with sliced tomatoes, sliced cucumber, pickles, or any mix of the three on the side. Mushrooms, cream cheese or hot sauce also work as extra toppings.
