Flapjacks
Flapjacks are the British oat bar, a chewy sweet slab made from just four ingredients in under an hour. Not to be confused with American flapjacks, which are pancakes. The recipe calls for quick rolled oats rather than porridge oats, which gives a tighter, more cohesive bar. Syrup and sugar bind everything together as it bakes. Cooling the tin untouched is what lets the mixture set firm enough to slice cleanly.
Instructions
Melt the margarine gently in a saucepan over low heat.
When the margarine has melted, pour in the syrup and stir until the two are well combined.
Add the granulated sugar and stir again until it is mixed in.
Tip in the quick rolled oats and stir until every oat is coated and the mixture looks evenly combined.
Press the mixture firmly into a well greased non-stick tin, smoothing the top so it bakes evenly.
Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 30 minutes, adjusting the time as needed for your oven.
Leave the flapjacks to cool completely in the tin before cutting and removing them.
Make it personal.
