Fried Tiger Lily Pastries
Fried tiger lily pastries are small sweet parcels filled with softened dried lily bulbs and egg. The bulbs are soaked, simmered until tender, then sweetened while still warm, so the sugar melts straight into the filling. Beaten egg binds it into a soft, spoonable paste that holds inside the wrapper. A quick fry gives a golden, crisp shell around a gentle, lightly floral center, and the recipe needs only six ingredients.
Instructions
Wash the dried lily bulbs and soak them in water for 1 hour. Pour off the soaking water and discard it.
Put the soaked bulbs in a saucepan with 1 cup of fresh water. Cook them until they are soft.
Take the pan off the heat and stir in sugar until it dissolves completely. Leave the mixture to cool.
When the mixture has cooled, beat in the eggs until it is well combined.
Spoon the filling onto the pastry dough wrappers and close them up to make 10 pastries.
Fry the pastries in hot vegetable oil, turning them as needed, until they are golden brown all over.
Make it personal.
