The Jersey Breakfast Dog stacks a bacon-wrapped, deep-fried beef hot dog with a fried egg and melted cheese on a toasted bun. Frying the wrapped dog crisps the bacon into a snug shell while the beef stays juicy inside. The egg and cheese turn a late-night street snack into a proper morning sandwich, and the whole thing comes together in about ten minutes for one hungry person.

Instructions

Preheat a deep fryer to 355°F. Wrap the bacon around the hot dog and pin it at each end with a toothpick so it stays put.

When the oil reaches 355°F, lower the wrapped hot dog into the fryer. Leave it until the bacon is firm and crispy.

While the hot dog fries, heat a frying pan and fry the egg. Slide the cooked egg onto a small plate.

Open the bun and lightly toast it, either cut side down in a pan over low heat or in a toaster oven.

Lay the slice of cheese on the egg and microwave it for 7 to 10 seconds, just until the cheese softens.

Set the egg and cheese on the bun. Lift the hot dog from the oil, pull out the toothpicks, and tuck it into the bun.

Add condiments of your choice and serve right away.
