Muffuletta Sandwich

The muffuletta is a New Orleans sandwich built from cured meats, two cheeses and olive spread on a wide round loaf. It began in the city's Italian community and was popularized at the Central Grocery in the French Quarter. The order of the layers matters, with salami at both the bottom and the top of the stack. Because it is pressed and can be wrapped tightly, it keeps well for later.
Instructions
Cut the loaf in half horizontally so you have a top and a bottom. Spread olive spread over both cut sides.
For the Central Grocery version, build the sandwich on the bottom half. Start with a layer of salami, then add ham, Swiss cheese, provolone and mortadella, and finish with a second layer of salami.
Set the top half of the loaf over the filling and press down firmly so the layers hold together.
Cut the sandwich into quarters and serve it. If you want to eat it later, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap instead.
