Nibbles
Nibbles is a savory party mix from Rocky Mount, North Carolina, built on three cereals, pretzels and three kinds of nuts. The coating is margarine and bacon grease with garlic salt, Worcestershire and a little peanut butter, which clings to every piece. A long, slow bake at 200 °F dries it into a crisp snack. The recipe makes enough for a crowd, so it suits holiday gatherings.
Instructions
Melt the margarine, bacon grease, garlic salt, Worcestershire sauce, Accent and peanut butter together and stir until the sauce is smooth and combined.
Put the Chex, Cheerios, pretzels, peanuts, pecans and cashews in a large canning pot. Leave the salt out for now.
Sprinkle a little of the sauce over the dry mixture, then put the lid on and shake the pot well. Repeat in small additions until all the sauce is used.
Salt the mixture the same way, sprinkling a little at a time and shaking after each addition, until it tastes right to you. This can take several rounds.
Bake the covered pot at 200 °F (95 °C) for 1½ to 2 hours. Take the pot out often and shake it so the coating dries evenly.
Let the mix cool before serving. It makes about 20 servings.
Make it personal.
