Nutty Brownie Bars
Nutty Brownie Bars turn a boxed brownie mix into a layered bar with very little extra work. A spread of sweetened condensed milk bakes into a sticky, caramel-like layer, and chopped almonds, walnuts and coconut candy bars sit on top for crunch and chew. Cutting the oil to 3 tablespoons keeps the base from turning greasy under the topping. Let the pan cool fully before slicing for neat squares.
Instructions
Heat the oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 9-by-3-inch pan.
Make the brownie batter following the directions on the package, but use only 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil in place of the amount the package calls for.
Pour the batter into the greased pan and smooth it out. Spoon the sweetened condensed milk over the top and spread it into an even layer.
Scatter the chopped almonds, chopped walnuts and chopped candy bars over the condensed milk.
Bake for 35 to 38 minutes, until the brownies are done by the test given on the package.
Let the pan cool completely before cutting the brownies into bars, so the layers set and the pieces hold together.
Make it personal.
