This is a one-pot sausage and spaghetti supper that needs nothing more than a single pan of boiling water. The sausages cook in the same pot as the pasta, so the starchy water does the work of a frying pan and there is only one thing to wash. A spoonful of butter loosens the strands, and ketchup works as well as jarred sauce when the cupboard is bare.

Instructions

Bring 2 liters of water to a boil in a large pot and stir in the salt.

Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook it for 3 minutes. It will not be done yet, which is intended, because it finishes cooking alongside the sausages.

Add the sausages to the pot with the pasta and keep boiling for 5 minutes. The spaghetti should be tender and the sausages cooked through before you move on.

Drain off the water, leaving the pasta and sausages in the pot.

Stir the butter or oil into the hot pasta until it coats the strands. Then mix in the pasta sauce or ketchup, starting with 3 tablespoons and adding more to taste.

Serve straight away, with the sausages on top of or alongside the pasta.
