Penne with hearty meat sauce is a half-hour pasta dinner built around Italian sausage that is browned and crumbled straight into the sauce. The sausage is already seasoned, so a canned meat sauce and a little tomato paste give you a thick, savory coating without a long simmer. The cooked penne finishes in the skillet, soaking up sauce for ten minutes, which makes this an easy way to feed six.

Instructions

Cook the penne according to the package directions and set it aside. Slip the casings off the sausages and discard them.

Put the sausage meat in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook it, breaking it up as it browns, until no pink remains and it has crumbled into small pieces. Drain off the fat.

Stir the spaghetti sauce, tomato paste and hot water into the sausage. Mix until the paste has dissolved and the sauce looks smooth and even.

Add the cooked penne to the skillet and stir until every piece is coated in sauce. Bring the pan to a boil.

Turn the heat down to low and let it simmer for 10 minutes, or until everything is heated through. Sprinkle the Parmesan over the top and serve.
