Silog is the Filipino breakfast plate built around garlicky fried rice and a fried egg, with a meat on the side. The name comes from joining sinangag (fried rice) and itlog (egg), and the same base works with longganisa, corned beef or hot dogs. Cucumber and tomato add a cool, fresh contrast to the rich meat, and a splash of spicy vinegar finishes it. It takes minutes to assemble.
Instructions
Put a serving of fried rice on your plate and set the fried egg beside it or on top. The egg can be fried sunny side up or beaten before frying, whichever you prefer.
Choose your add-ons from the hot dogs, corned beef, longganisa and sliced cucumber and tomato. Have them cooked and ready before you plate.
Arrange the add-ons around the rice so each one has its own space on the plate.
Serve right away with any condiments you like, such as spicy vinegar for dipping or drizzling.
