Very Simple Cookies
Three ingredients are all you need for a batch of buttery, crisp cookies. Melted butter is mixed straight into the sugar, so there is no creaming, no eggs to bring to room temperature and no mixer to wash. The plain dough bakes up golden and firm, and it takes chocolate chips or oats without any changes. It suits anyone short on time or equipment, and it is a forgiving first recipe for a child learning to bake.
Instructions
Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
Stir the sugar into the melted butter until the two are well combined.
Add the flour and mix until the dough turns thick and holds together.
If you like, fold in chocolate chips, oats, or both, mixing until they are spread evenly through the dough.
Shape the dough into cookies of whatever size and form you prefer, and set them on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake until the cookies are golden and firm to the touch. This will probably take 8 to 12 minutes, depending on how large they are, so check the smaller ones early. Remove them from the oven when done.
Make it personal.
