Calzone is a folded Italian pizza, filled with cheese and baked until the crust turns golden. The name means sock, and the stuffed shape explains why. This version uses ricotta and mozzarella seasoned with oregano, so the inside stays soft and creamy while the outside crisps. Store-bought dough keeps the work light, and a fork is all you need to seal it. Add ham, salami or sausage if you like.
Instructions
Heat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
Stir the ricotta, mozzarella, oregano and any toppings you are using together in a bowl until evenly mixed.
Roll the pizza dough out between two pieces of waxed paper so it stays easy to handle and does not stick.
Spoon the cheese mixture into the center of the dough. Dampen the edges of the dough slightly with a little water.
Fold the dough over the filling to make a half circle. Press the edges closed with the tines of a fork so the seam is sealed.
Bake until the crust is golden brown, about 10 to 12 minutes. Serve with marinara sauce for dipping.
