Vanilla fudge made from just five pantry ingredients, with no candy thermometer needed. Condensed milk gives the fudge its creamy body, while corn syrup helps keep the sugar from turning gritty as it cooks. The method is simple: boil for five minutes, stir in the vanilla off the heat, and let the tray cool. It suits first-time candy makers and anyone who wants homemade gifts without fuss.

Instructions

Line a deep tray with grease-proof paper so the fudge can be lifted out easily once it has set.

Put the sugar, corn syrup, condensed milk and butter into a saucepan and set it over medium heat on the stove.

Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly so the bottom does not scorch. Once it reaches a boil, keep cooking and stirring for 5 minutes.

Take the pan off the heat and beat in the vanilla extract until it is evenly mixed through.

Pour the fudge into the lined tray and leave it to cool until firm.

When it has set, cut the fudge into pieces.
